SWEETWATER - HOUSING ON THE QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK

2014

Development within the Olympic Park is controlled by the London Legacy Development Corporation - their masterplan and design guidelines specify development programmes, infrastructure, materiality, building heights and volumes. Students were asked to design to these guidelines, creating housing on the former Olympic site which matches the given criteria, in order to meaningfully critique the masterplan.

The development consists of an L shaped block containing 49 flats and duplexes, and 6 three-storey townhouses, arranged around a shared garden and adjacent to the Lea Navigation. Dwellings are designed to exceed the space requirements of the London Housing Design Guide by at least 25%.

Construction is in-situ concrete, light steel frame and brick. Internal layouts are arranged to maximise light and to allow private outdoor space on balconies and terraces.
